Updated: July 25, 2020
1. Privacy Statement
This privacy policy explains the information that may be collected on https://resilient-c.ubc.ca (hereinafter, "us", "we", or "Resilient-C"). The School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) are committed to protecting the privacy of our website users. This policy is a supplement to the UBC website terms of service for the Resilient-C platform.
"Personal information" in this policy means recorded information about an identifiable individual, except for the names and business contact information of an employee of UBC or other place of business. Examples of personal information include: names of private individuals; student numbers; identifiable photographs or videos; or identifiable voice recordings.
All personal information is collected under the authority of Section26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c.165. Personal information will be used for the purposes described in the UBC terms of service and this privacy policy. Personal information may be accessible from outside of Canada.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information on Resilient-C users in two ways:
- Non-personal information that is automatically collected from you. Like most web-based services,
Resilient-C may automatically collect and store non-personal information in server logs and/or through
third-party services. This may include:
- Your internet protocol (IP) address;
- Information shared by your browser, including your browser type and version, the operating system you use, the date and time of your visit, the page(s) you visited, how long you spent on each page, the page you entered the site on, and the last page you looked at before you left; and
- Cookies that store your site preferences.
- Personal information that you provide to Resilient-C. At various points while using the Resilient-C
platform you may provide us with personal and non-personal information to use the service. This may include:
- Community names, potentially including the community you live in; and
- Your name and email address if using the Contact Us form.
Our purpose in collecting this information is to provide you with the services you request, to better understand how our application is used, and to identify issues with the services we provide. In the case of information provided using the Contact Us form, the information you provide will be used exclusively to respond to your communications. We do not share the information we collect from users with third parties, except to provide you with the service.
3. Links to External sites
Resilient-C includes links to external sites that are not operated by the Resilient-C research team, SCARP, or UBC. If you follow a link to a third-party site, we strongly advise you to review the privacy policy and/or terms of service for each site you visit. We have no connection with, control over, or responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites, products, or services.
4. Cookies
"Cookies" are a string of information that a website stores in a visitor's browser, and the browser returns that information to the website each time the visitor requests a page from the website. Resilient-C makes use of browser cookies and similar technologies (e.g., local storage, session storage) to store your preferences to enrich and personalize your experience of the platform. Visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers can set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the Resilient-C platform. However, by doing so you acknowledge that some features of the Resilient-C platform may not function properly or at all.
